The Power of Story

Do you LOVE a good story? Shared across any genre or table, through print or speech, compelling stories are captivating. They inspire us, bring us joy, make us laugh, give us courage, and draw us all closer together.

Like individual chapters of a book, when our unique stories are woven together a shared narrative of resilience and inspiration emerges. We have so much more in common than we realize. When joined together, the threads of our distinct journeys intertwine with others and a breathtaking tapestry is formed. Commonalities overshadowed by supposed differences are discovered. In every life, pain is juxtaposed with joy. Heartache is woven through healing. It all has a place and can be seen in every one of us.

Sometimes, this adventure we call life can be HARD. Perhaps your travels, like mine, have often left you weary and worn. But when we lean in and listen, we learn we are not alone. We discover hope. We truly are better together. So let’s join together and celebrate the power of story.

Let’s keep listening and sharing - Just One More Chapter.

The Backstory

For those interested in the backstory - I am a storyteller, mom, wife, daughter, sister, auntie, writer, editor, published author, speaker, entrepreneur, coach and consultant, former performing arts director, playwright, teacher, and overall lover of ALL things creative! I live in a small, rural town in southern Kentucky with my husband of 21 years, Sean Conner (forever my “hot boy in the hat”). Here we raise, homeschool, and chauffeur around our beautiful 15-year-old daughter and run our family business. Our home is always filled with music as our daughter, Addy (a singer/songwriter), reminds us regularly “music is life.” We are also HUGE fans of our pooches (double pooches to be specific). For us, a house is not a home without our dogs. The last name Conner actually translates from the Irish origin as “lover of hounds” - no joke, you can look it up. So, we come by it naturally.

I began writing as a young girl and really never stopped. From the start, I devoured just about every book I could get my hands on (especially fiction) and absolutely LOVED every single English course I took all the way through AP Lit. During my teenage years, I had the unique opportunity to be a contributing author and the lead editor of one of the first high school literary magazines in the country. I had no idea then that my love for literature could someday turn into something I might be able to do “full-time.”

I went on to college with a declared major of “mass communications and journalism” only to get to my junior year and realize I had only taken one mass comm class, but had basically already double majored in English Literature and Performing Arts. Having absolutely no idea at all of how I would make a career out of it, I switched my major to English Literature and spent the remainder of my years barely sleeping while I worked as a tutor and teacher at our university’s Writing Center AND worked part-time at an educational development company as a writer and curriculum developer AND participated in performing, choreographing, and directing every single theater production I could get my hands on - all while still taking a full credit load. If you are a creative - you get it… Art rarely pays the bills so we tag it on top of our “real job/real lives” and sacrifice BIG.

Fast forward two decades later, and it is incredible to see how God has allowed me to weave in and out of the creative arts throughout the years. I have worked extensively in children’s literature, particularly the educational market, and have personally published over 75 works in this arena as well as assisted others in placing their books in the hands of children as an editor of hundreds of educationally published works. I have been a performing arts director, choreographer, and Christian school teacher. I have shared faith-based works with readers and viewers through personal authorship, playwriting and theater directing, and script writing/assistant producing for film projects. Most consistently and most notably, I have served countless clients from businesses, non-profit organizations, and independent authors as an editor, strategic planner, coach, and ghostwriter. While other aspects of my journey as an artist have come and gone, this particular opportunity has consistently remained for over twenty years. It has been an absolute joy to help others develop their own unique gifts and abilities as we work towards transforming their abstract dreams into reality.

Today, I remain fully engaged in my editorial work and continue to pursue opportunities that redeem the arts as offerings back to the Great Artist; create and celebrate children’s content that whisks readers away into a world of fantasy where whimsy, playfulness, and good old-fashioned fun, carry the day; and offer encouragement and inspire hope through authentic stories of faith shared through the lives of imperfect people.

I’m so happy you are here and look forward to learning your backstory!
